How to Buy a Mattress - The Basics
Assess your current mattress and any sleep issues you are experiencing.
Research what a quality mattress is. Keep an open mind with new technology. Select some choices you are interested in knowing more about.
Shop to find the right mattress. Lie down, relax, and do a quick rest test. Take your time. This will be where you will spend 1/3 of your life, so it's important to get a good feel for the mattress.
Ensure proper mattress care. Proper support and mattress protecting is important.
At Mattress Barn we take a similar approach from a service standpoint. These are our goals:
Ask questions and listen to our clients in order to identify our clients needs, what they liked about their current mattress, and what sleep problems they are experiencing.
Explain the differences and qualities of each type of mattress that is relevant to the needs and problems our clients expressed.
Offer a wide selection of quality mattresses for competitive prices. Have a relaxed environment where our clients can test the mattresses and see what they like with insightful recommendations from our staff.
Ensure a flawless delivery process. Follow up to make sure all is well. If anything goes wrong, we are here to help. We include mattress protectors with most of our mattress sets and will make sure you know how to care for your mattress to help elongate it's comfort life. If the need arises, any manufacturers warranty is facilitated by us on your behalf.

How to Buy a Mattress - Important Considerations for Proper Care
PROPER FRAME SUPPORT -
It might seem like a minor detail of the purchase, but the #1 reason for problems with mattresses failing is improper support by the foundation (box spring) or bed frame. Queen and King sized beds require a bed frame with a rigid center support. Queen size beds require 1 center support, while king size beds require 2 center supports. Wood beds usually come with their own support system. Our store's staff will review this with you.
NEW MATTRESS SCENT -
New mattresses sometimes have a new mattress scent, almost like a new car.
The upholstery layers have just been manufactured, possibly days earlier.
Before putting on linens and covers you may want to let a new mattress air-out for a few hours after the factory sealed plastic has been removed.
If it’s nice out, you may also want to open a window.
MATTRESS PROTECTORS -
We include mattress protectors with most of our mattress sets, but if you are not purchasing one of the mattresses that it comes free with, we highly recommend that you purchase one.
These mattress protectors reduce dust mite allergens by 99.9%.
They are also antimicrobial protecting against mold and fungus growth.
Additionally, soiling of a new mattress will void the manufacturer warranty.
Again, we highly recommend keeping the mattress protector on the mattress.
It is a healthier way to sleep.
ADJUSTMENT PERIOD -
It may take your body a few weeks to become fully accustomed with the feel and support of a new mattress set.
The mattresses we deliver are usually about 1 week from the manufacturer.
Similar to a new pair of shoes, the upholstery layers of a mattress may take some time to break in.
BODY IMPRESSIONS
-
We do not use “filler” foams in our mattresses.
We stress the use of quality, high density upholstery layers.
All of our mattresses are upgraded versions of national brand line-ups.
That being said, it is normal for upholstery layers to settle.
The supporting ability of the comfort layers will not diminish as a result of the settling process.
Impressions, commonly referred to as “body impressions”, will decrease over time when the comfort layers are given time to settle to their normal height.
WARRANTY -
A card is attached to the side of your mattress.
This is your warranty card.
Please take a few moments to read this helpful information.
After reviewing your warranty you may want to put this, along with your receipt, in a plastic bag and store it between your mattress and box spring for future reference.
All warranty rights are governed solely by the product manufacturer.
In the event that there is a defect in your mattress the Mattress Barn will help you facilitate a warranty claim with the manufacturer.
